US$175,000 in cash fell out of the back of an Garda armored car on I285, the ring road around Atlanta, GA, on July 9th. The bags burst open and the currency littered the highway.
A surprising number of "Good Samaritan" citizens stopped to help clean up the mess. After all, who likes a littered highway!
You know what they say, no good deed goes unpunished. Police issued dire warnings that people shown on video parking and gathering "trash" might be tracked down and arrested. Some citizens answered the call (and threat) and returned (some) of the "trash" they had cleaned up from the roadside.
Most of the money remains missing.
I imagine the local bars and retailers have had a good week.
